Dark Forest is the first chapter of the Ura-Tokyo: Exorcist City manga series. It was released on March 17, 2026.
Summary
Chapter 1 starts off with Haruho Nanbu traveling to Ura-Tokyo for the exorcist exam. During her journey on the train, she meets Soma Kuroniwa, a fellow examinee who seems to have no spirit power and being scammed by someone. Haruho eventually helps Kuroniwa and they both get on the Ghostliner. During the train ride, the journey to the exam gets stopped by a demon. The demon starts attacking the train, and one student's hand gets cut off by the demon. Kuroniwa decides to fight the demon, with Haruho asking him why, which he replies by stating he's following the first rule of being an exorcist. Haruho becomes moved by that statement and starts fighting the demon along with Kuroniwa. Kuroniwa then reveals that he broke the rules once and paid the price for it by having a body full of scars, chain, and locks. Kuroniwa starts by using his First Lock - Dark Forest ability that defeats the demon, and Haruho states that he is a brave exorcist unlike her, Kuroniwa replies by stating she is also an brave exorcist because she followed the rules of an exorcist and protected other people instead of running away from the demon. It is revealed that whole demon attacking the train was the actual exam, and both Haruho Nanbu & Soma Kuroniwa have passed the Ura-Tokyo School of Exorcism Entrance Exam, and they were in the 38 out of the 13,218 examinees that have passed the exam. The chapter ends with Haruho and Kuroniwa getting ready to go to the Ura-Tokyo School of Exorcism.
